Hello to everyone who is still reading my blog posts...y'all are much appreciated. Today was officially the first day of classes. I do want to make something clear before anything. This study abroad experience is different since we do a lot of traveling and have seminars in Temuco, Chile and then Buenos Aires, Argentina which I will get to eventually. However, the first month of our stay has to do with subjects related to human rights and learning about the history of Chile. In the middle of all this fun we take a month of Spanish classes. Ya girl is in the "higher", varsity level Spanish class. I want to shout out my Spanish teachers and professors from high school and college. I didn't realize that I had that level in me so we out here making moves. I like the professor she's really interesting and seems SUPER knowledgeable about Spanish. soooo...this should be fun...
In other news, this post is not very fun but wait until we get to the "Deep" part it's fun. So we had a workshop the Friday we got to Santiago to talk about the workshops and events that the school had. Of course I don't know how stand still and mind my business, but they offered the opportunity to play with the girls volleyball team so I said why not. I went to the athletic directors office and he said that I could go to practice, but that there was not enough time to actually play on the team. Was I mad? no...i was just disappointed. regardless, i got home and got greeted by my amazing host mom then I went to practice. After 15 minutes of walking around I found the place and met the coach and the girls. Right off the bat the girls were very welcoming and curious. I was surprised that I was at their playing level...like I'm really not all that so I was like YOOOO.
Anyways, the day is over and here I am yet again hitting you all with the "Deep" Daily Post/Moment, etc. It's crazy to think how there are so many people who focus on the differences that we all face. Should we recognize them? YESSSSS. Differences are amazing and powerful. It felt amazing to although be a "foreigner" see how the volleyball is a universal tool (cliche, ya se po). Anyways, this practice made me realize that for once in my life I was part of the majority, Latinx. I was able to use my native language without judgement...except for the fact that when I messed up of course I let a casual English curse word...ANYWAYS...Yes I like the team and the coach is very encouraging. I'll see ya beautiful people on tomorrow since I have a presentation on one of my personal favorite bands...and yes I have been a fan so don't do me.
THE END 🌞✌🏽
